Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: "Survivor" Triumphs Over Mostly Repeat Competition

Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (4/19/17):

CBS (6.821 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) was the network to beat on Wednesday with new episodes of "Survivor: Game Changers" (8.232 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1), a second "Survivor: Game Changers" (7.451 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) and "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" (4.780 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8).

Second place then went to ABC (4.170 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #2) with repeats of "The Goldbergs" (4.077 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3), "Speechless" (3.532 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T5), "Modern Family" (3.850 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T5) and "Black-ish" (3.468 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8) plus a new "Designated Survivor" (5.047 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3).

Next up was NBC (4.479 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T3) and its second run lineup of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (4.353 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8), another "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (4.785 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T5) and "Chicago PD" (4.301 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8).

Meanwhile, FOX (3.122 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T3) offered up a new "Shots Fired" (3.169 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8) and a repeat "Empire" (3.076 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T8).

And finally, repeats of "Arrow" (1.154 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14), "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.177 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) and a second "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.096 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) rounded out the night for The CW (1.145 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.6/3; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.0/4 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.0/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.3/3 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.3/2.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (4/20/16):

FOX (7.005 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1) was the demo champ for the fourth consecutive week thanks to new episodes of "Rosewood" (4.593 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T5) and "Empire" (9.418 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.6, #1).

CBS (8.559 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2) then took home the silver with its mix of "Survivor: Kaoh Rong" (9.187 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #2), "Criminal Minds" (9.010 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3) and "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" (7.480 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4).

Next up was ABC (3.964 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3) and its repeat lineup of "The Middle" (4.529 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7), "The Goldbergs" (4.118 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7), "Modern Family" (4.172 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T5), "Black-ish" (3.566 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7) and a new "Nashville" (3.699 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T10).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.946 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) offered up a new "Heartbeat" (4.042 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T10) alongside repeats of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (3.747 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T10) and "Chicago PD" (4.051 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T10).

And finally, second runs of "Arrow" (1.166 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) and "Supernatural" (0.893 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) on The CW (1.029 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the night.
