UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 9, 2011 - NBC's late-night lineup has delivered #1 rankings for the week of August 29-September 2, as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" generated bigger audiences than CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's combination of original "Nightline" telecasts and encores of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in every key ratings category: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. Note that Friday's "Late Show" was an encore.
At 12:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" delivered bigger audiences than CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" in viewers 18-49, total viewers and nearly all other key ratings categories: adults and women 18-34, men and women 18-49, and adults, men and women 25-54.
"Tonight" out-delivered "Late Show" in viewers 18-49 by a 32 percent margin (1.104 million vs. 837,000) and in total viewers by a 39 percent margin (3.693 million vs. 2.665 million). At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon topped "Late Late Show" by a 27 percent margin in viewers 18-49 (661,000 vs. 519,000) and a 29 percent advantage in total viewers (1.632 million vs. 1.262 million).
So far during the 2010-11 television season versus the first 50 weeks of last season, "Tonight" is up by 11 percent in total viewers (3.850 million vs. 3.474 million), while "Late Show" is down 8 percent (3.364 million vs. 3.662 million). At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon is up 12 percent versus his year-ago pace in total viewers (1.762 million vs. 1.573 million), while "Late Late Show" is down 7 percent (1.657 million vs. 1.779 million).
At 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call with Carson Daly" is up so far this season versus one year ago by 3 percent in 18-49 viewers (479,000 vs. 467,000) and up 11 percent in total viewers (970,000 vs. 876,000).
Jay Leno has ranked #1 for 47 of 49 weeks this season versus "Late Show" in viewers 18-49 and total viewers (excluding the week of Wimbledon delays). Jimmy Fallon has ranked #1 versus "Late Late Show" in viewers 18-49 for 49 of 49 weeks this season (excluding Wimbledon week). In total viewers, Jimmy has out-delivered "Late Late Show" for the last 16 weeks in a row.
