Quick Take for Wednesday, October 22, 2008 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

Opposite Game 1 of the World Series, ABC Posts its Best Wednesday in 3 Weeks in Adults 18-49 and is No. 1 for the 4th Straight Week in Women 18-34

Retaining All of its Young Adults Week to Week, "Pushing Daisies" Ties "Knight Rider" in Adults 18-34, Continuing to Beat the NBC Show Across All Key Women

Opposite the World Series Game 1, "Private Practice" Grows from its Most Recent Telecast 2 Weeks Ago by 5% in Viewers and by 15% in Adults 18-49

"Private Practice" Stands as the Night's No. 1 Non-Sports Program in Adults 18-34 And, for its 3rd Straight Telecast, is Wednesday's No. 1 TV Show with Women 18-34

For the 3rd Straight Airing and by its Biggest Margin Yet, ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" Defeats NBC's "Lipstick Jungle" in Viewers and Adults 18-49

Wednesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.) ABC marked its highest-rated Wednesday in 3 weeks (since 10/1/08) among Adults 18-49 (2.3/6), while winning the evening for the 4th consecutive week among Women 18-34 (2.9/8).

"Pushing Daisies" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's "Pushing Daisies" tied NBC's "Knight Rider" in Adults 18-34 (1.7/5) and, for 4th week in a row, beat out the NBC drama by double digits across the Women demos: W18-34 +50% (2.1/6 vs. 1.4/4), W18-49 +26% (2.4/6 vs. 1.9/5) and W25-54 +13% (2.7/7 vs. 2.4/6).

Opposite Fox's World Series coverage in the hour, "Pushing Daisies" retained 100% of its young adult audience week to week, while increasing across the board in the key Men demographics (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54).

"Private Practice" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Once again surging from its lead-in and gaining audience during the 9 o'clock hour, ABC's "Private Practice" ranked as the night's No. 1 non-sports program in Adults 18-34, beating CBS' "Criminal Minds" in the time period by 22% (2.8/8 vs. 2.3/6). The ABC sophomore drama stood as Wednesday's No. 1 TV show for its 3rd consecutive telecast among Women 18-34 (4.5/12).

Despite competing against the World Series this week, "Private Practice" was up from its most recent airing 2 weeks ago by 5% in Total Viewers (7.8 million vs. 7.4 million) and by 15% in Adults 18-49 (3.0/7 vs. 2.6/7).

"Dirty Sexy Money" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

In the final hour of the night opposite CBS' veteran drama "C.S.I.: NY," ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" defeated its NBC sophomore drama competition, "Lipstick Jungle," for its 3rd consecutive telecast and by its biggest margin yet in both Total Viewers (+40% - 5.9 million vs. 4.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+25% - 2.0/5 vs. 1.6/4).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 28% currently, from 20% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
