Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: "Big Brother" Returns on Top for CBS

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (6/22/16):

CBS (5.271 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #1) surged to the top spot on Wednesday with the two-hour season premiere of "Big Brother 18" (6.144 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1) alongside the launch of "American Gothic" (3.527 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10).

NBC (3.795 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then had to settle for second place with an encore of "American Ninja Warrior" (3.562 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T2) and a new "The Night Shift" (4.261 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T4).

Next up was FOX (3.043 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) with fresh installments from "MasterChef" (3.728 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T2) and "Wayward Pines" (2.359 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10).

Meanwhile, ABC (3.104 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) opted for its all-repeat lineup of "The Middle" (3.822 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6), "The Goldbergs" (3.339 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6), "Modern Family" (3.442 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T4), "Black-ish" (3.088 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6), "Fresh Off the Boat" (2.731 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6) and "The Real O'Neals" (2.198 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10).

And finally, second runs of "Arrow" (0.796 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.2, #14) and "Supernatural" (0.941 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #13) on The CW (0.868 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.8/4; "Late Show," 0.3/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.2/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (0.9/3). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (6/24/15):

CBS (5.601 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T1) was the most-watched network on Wednesday thanks to the return of "Big Brother 17" (6.829 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.0, #1) followed by a new "The Briefcase" (4.666 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6) and a repeat "Criminal Minds" (5.309 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6).

NBC (4.847 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T1) however shared the silver with rebroadcasts of "America's Got Talent" (5.913 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #3) and "American Ninja Warrior" (4.314 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.2, #4).

Next up was FOX (3.729 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #3) with originals from "MasterChef" (4.642 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.4, #2) and "Bullseye" (2.817 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6).

Meanwhile, ABC (3.542 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #4) served up repeats of "The Middle" (4.235 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6), "The Goldbergs" (3.655 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.8, #12), "Modern Family" (3.779 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.0, #5) and "Black-ish" (3.299 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6) plus a new "Celebrity Wife Swap" (3.143 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T6).

And finally, second runs of "Arrow" (1.094 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) and "Supernatural" (0.883 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) on The CW (0.989 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), the former delivered a 0.2 rating while the latter posted a 0.2 rating.
