BODIES (Netflix, New!) - Paul Tomalin has landed an eight-part series at the streamer based on Si Spencer's graphic novel, "which starts with a murder in Whitechapel. Four different detectives are trying to solve the murder in different time periods: 1890s overachiever Edmond Hillinghead, dashing 1940s adventurer Karl Whiteman, kickass female 2010s Detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan and Maplewood, an amnesiac from post-apocalyptic 2050, who brings a haunting perspective." Marco Kreutzpaintner and Haolu Wang are on board to helm the project for Will Gould and Frith Tiplady's Moonage Pictures with Susie Liggat producing. (Deadline.com)
DISCLAIMER (Apple TV+) - Oscar nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee has signed onto the Cate Blanchett/Kevin Kline-led drama series in a yet-to-be-revealed role. (Deadline.com)
FLATSHARE (Paramount+, New!) - The streamer has landed the London-set six-episode drama, which stars Jessica Brown Findlay and Anthony Welsh as Tiffany and Leon, "two cash-strapped twentysomethings who share a bed - despite having never met. They time-share a flat as she works during the day at a content-mill website and he spends nights working at a hospice. They get unexpectedly drawn into one another's lives, and an attraction begins to evolve backward." Bart Edwards, Shaq B Grant, Shaniqua Okwok and Jonah Hauer-King also star. Writer Rose Lewenstein and director Peter Cattaneo are behind the project, which is based on the novel by Beth O'Leary. Miriam Brent, Rory Aitken and Eleanor Moran of 42 will also executive produce for ViacomCBS International Studios. (THR.com)
PROBLEM WITH JON STEWART, THE (Apple TV+) - Former head writer Chelsea Devantez has signed an overall deal with 20th Television. There she'll develop new series projects for the studio on an exclusive basis. (Deadline.com)
WALKER: INDEPENDENCE (The CW) - Matt Barr has scored a lead role on the prequel series pilot as Hoyt Rawlins, "a gambler and an outlaw who lays low in the town of Independence. Cocky, confident, brash and a bit foolhardy, he's been having an on-again, off-again affair with rancher's daughter Lucia Montero - but after meeting Abby, Hoyt's wandering eye appears to have frozen in place. Well aware that Abby is a straight arrow, Hoyt realizes he might have a lot to learn from her, seeing someone who might help him step away from the life of an outlaw, taking a side for change to fight for truth, justice and the Texan way." Barr previously played the character's present day descendant, also named Hoyt Rawlins, in four episodes on the series last year. (Deadline.com)
WEETZIE BAT (Peacock, New!) - Sera Gamble has sold a potential drama to the streamer based on Francesca Lia Block's book which "follows Weetzie, her best friend Dirk, and their found family as they traverse the sparkling, dangerous, secret world beneath the surface of 1980s Los Angeles. Weetzie faces the deepest heartbreaks of life with a spirit of hard-won optimism and an unfailing knack for finding the magic hidden inside the ordinary. Weetzie has discovered something amazing: magic is real, and it is hiding in plain sight in the city of Los Angeles. Now, if she can find it, she can use it to get what she's always wanted: true love, a real home, and a happy family." Paul Shapiro and Greg Silverman of Stampede Ventures, Vince Gerardis and Hope Rieser Farley of Startling Media will also executive produce for Universal Cable Productions with Block, Chris Schelling and Liz Lippman as co-executive producers.
