END, THE (Amazon) - The Akshay Kumar-led series, "an action thriller whose plot details are being kept tightly under wraps," is in pre-production with filming "due to start in early 2021 with a view to a premiere in the second half of the year." (Variety.com)
FRIENDS (HBO Max) - Matthew Perry took to social media with the news that filming on the proposed reunion special is now being rescheduled for the beginning of March. (@MatthewPerry)
LEVEL (NBC, New!) - Writer Sean Finegan and director Julie Anne Robinson have sold a new drama to the network which revolves around Charlie Hunt, "who has the most brilliant business mind in history, but after a jarring family tragedy, Charlie quit chasing profits and repurposed his unique skills to shut down villains who live above the law by making whatever they're doing an economic impossibility. He hits them where it hurts and levels the playing field for everyone else." CannyLads Productions' Kelly Pancho will also executive produce for Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
MODERN AUSTEN (The CW, New!) - Eleanor Burgess has booked a potential anthology series at the netlet that reimagines Jane Austen's beloved novels as six modern stories, "offering a kaleidoscopic look at love and family in our time of inequality and disconnection. Each season is a different novel, beginning with Pride and Prejudice, set in contemporary San Francisco." Homegrown Pictures' Stephanie Allain is also executive producing the project, which is set up at Warner Bros. Television. Gabrielle Ebron is producing. (Deadline.com)
PAINKILLER (The CW, New!) - Jordan Calloway is set to star in a proposed "Black Lightning" spin-off featuring his character, Khalil Payne, "a man ridden with the guilt of his troubled past from his former life in Freeland City, where, as a super-enhanced killing machine known as Painkiller he was both a member of Tobias Whale's gang and a weapon of Agent Odell and the shadowy ASA." The project will be seeded as a planted spinoff during the seventh episode of "Black Lightning's" upcoming fourth season. Salim Akil will write, direct and executive produce for Warner Bros. Television. Berlanti Productions, home to the network's DC series, however is not involved. (Deadline.com)
SHRINK NEXT DOOR, THE (Apple TV+) - Casey Wilson is the latest bound for the Will Ferrell/Paul Rudd-led comedy series as Bonnie, the wife of Rudd's Dr. Herschkopf. (Variety.com)
SLASHER (Shudder) - The horror anthology has found a third home, this time at streaming service Shudder. David Cronenberg is slated to star in a new eight-episode installment of the series, which began on defunct channel Chiller before moving to Netflix for its second and third seasons. Shaftesbury Films remains behind the project, with Aaron Martin, Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, David Ozer, Thomas P. Vitale and Ian Carpenter executive producing. Adam MacDonald is directing the new season while Paula Brancati, Jefferson Brown, Patrice Goodman, Sabrina Grdevich, Christopher Jacot, Rachael Crawford, Jeananne Goosen, Sydney Meyer and Alex Ozerov are also among the principal cast. Production is underway in Ontario, Canada. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED RIDDLE & SALAHUDDIN PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin have scored a put pilot commitment from the network for a multi-camera comedy which "follows a group of Black college students from blue collar backgrounds as they adjust to the culture shock of the Ivy League. Wanting to feel more 'at home' at the college, they find family by forming a doo-wop group." The duo will write and executive produce for Warner Bros. Television, home to their recently signed overall deal. (Deadline.com)
