BASILISK (FX, New!) - Curtis Gwinn ("The Bastard Executioner") has sold a new drama to the cable channel billed as "a gritty horror series that follows an atheistic college therapist and her computer-genius patient as they find themselves pulled into a plot to awaken a malevolent, god-like artificial intelligence." Francis Lawrence and 3 Arts Entertainment's Erwin Stoff and Oly Obst also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
CURVE, THE (NBC, New!) - Jeff Rake ("The Mysteries of Laura") is developing a new drama at the Peacock based on Jeremy Blachman and Cameron Stracher's novel about "an attorney who decides to leave his white shoe law firm and give back by teaching, but he finds his idealism challenged when he signs on to work at the worst academic institution in the country - Manhattan Law School, located in Gowanus, Brooklyn. While attempting to navigate the murky waters of for-profit academia, he strives to give the best education he can to a motley crew of students." Rake and Blachman will co-write the Warner Bros. Television-based hour and serve as executive producer and co-executive producer, respectively. (Variety.com)
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE (Netflix) - Nia Jervier and Wyatt Nash are both bound for the movie-turned-TV-series as Kelsey, "a bubbly college student genuinely surprised that racism is still a thing"; and Kurt Fletcher, "editor of the campus humor magazine and son of the college president." The former appeared in the feature as Coco's Friend. (Deadline.com)
HANDMAID'S TALE, THE (Hulu) - British actor O.T. Fagbenle has signed onto the upcoming drama as Luke, "Offred's (Elisabeth Moss) husband from the world before Gilead, and father to their daughter Hannah." (Deadline.com)
MISTRESSES (ABC) - Yunjin Kim's Dr. Karen Kim will not return for a potential fifth season of the just wrapped drama. (TVLine.com)
PITCH (FOX) - Kevin Connolly ("Entourage") will recur on the new series as Charlie Graham, "the interim Padres president of operations. A former Silicon Valley executive, Charlie is youthful, charming and inspiring. However, his off-beat warmth and enthusiasm belies a steely will and cut-throat bottom line approach to the business of baseball." (Deadline.com)
QUEEN OF SHADOWS (Hulu, New!) - Writer Kira Snyder and director Anna Foerster are spearheading a small screen take on Sarah J. Maas's "Throne of Glass" book series, about Celaena Sardothien, "a complicated female assassin with a mysterious past who only wants her freedom. Now beholden to an increasingly tyrannous king, Celaena will become a reluctant hero against the multitudes of forces that threaten to destroy her world. Along the way she will make friends, enemies, and lovers, and be wildly underestimated by all of them." The Mark Gordon Company's Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
SINNER, THE (USA, New!) - Jessica Biel (Bleeding Heart) is set to star in and executive produce a small screen take on Petra Hammesfahr's book of the same name about "a young mother, overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, [who] commits a startling and very public act of violence - and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the who or the what - but the why. A rogue investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive, and together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past." Writer Derek Simonds and director Antonio Campos are behind the Universal Cable Productions-based project, which has a pilot commitment. Iron Ocean Films' Michelle Purple will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
STAR (FOX) - Executive producer and co-showrunner Charles Murray has opted to exit the series over "creative differences over what the show should be." Production however is not expected to be delayed over the departure. (Deadline.com)
TRAINING DAY (CBS) - Emma Caulfield and Brian Van Holt will both drop by the midseason drama in an episode about Lauren (Caulfield), "a warm, sympathetic single mom who spent the last nine years raising her young daughter alone and in hiding after her husband (Van Holt) went to jail for killing a man in self defense. When a natural disaster forces Lauren out into the open, her hubby must break out of prison in order to save their lives." (TVLine.com)
