Development Update: Wednesday, July 8
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

GORGEOUS MORONS (ABC Family/ABCS; W: Danny Chun; D: TBA) - Christopher Russell and Dylan Playfair have been tapped as the male leads on the multi-camera comedy pilot, about Madison and AJ, two stunningly handsome but ridiculously simple brothers - one is a model, the other a personal trainer - who find their lives rocked by their brainy new roommate, Jane (Lilah Richcreek), a female literature PhD whose looks are, by their standards, in desperate need of help. Madison (Russell) is billed as "a pretentious but vapid model capable of getting whatever he wants by simply flashing his incredible smile"; with AJ (Playfair) detailed as "a personal trainer and younger brother to Madison." (Deadline.com)

GRAVES (Epix/Lionsgate; W/D: Joshua Michael Stern) - Susan Sarandon is set to reunite with her Lorenzo's Oil co-star Nick Nolte in the upcoming comedy, about a former President of the United States. Twenty years after his presidency, former President Richard Graves has the epiphany that his policies have damaged the country for decades and so, with his young assistant, he goes on a Don Quixote-like journey to right his administration's wrongs just as his wife, the former First Lady, decides to follow her own political ambitions. They play said couple Margaret and Richard Graves. Greg Shapiro, Keith Eisner and Eric Weinberg also serve as executive producers. (TVLine.com)

INFAMOUS, THE (A&E, New!) - Joshua Zetumer (Robocop) has scored a pilot order from the cable channel for a new drama, "set against real events in turbulent 1990s Los Angeles leading up to the LA Riots, and centers on two complicated men on a collision course: an ambitious reformed gangster poised to break out of South Central and the LAPD detective hell-bent on taking him down." Rupert Wyatt is attached to helm the A+E Studios-based hour with Color Force's Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)

MACHINE, THE (Syfy, New!) - Caradog James is looking to bring his 2013 feature to the small screen at the cable channel. Said effort will "follow multiple storylines as it takes a broad view of cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs in genetic engineering, trans-humanism and artificial intelligence." John Giwa-Amu (The Silent Storm) is also on board to produce for Universal Cable Productions. (THR.com)

YOU ME HER (DirecTV, New!) - John Scott Shepherd ("Save Me") has received a 10-episode series order from DirecTV's Audience Network for a new "polyromantic" comedy that centers on "a three-way relationship - two of the parties a suburban married couple." Entertainment One Television is behind the half-hour, which is inspired by the Playboy Magazine article "Sugar on Top" by John H. Richardson. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Netflix has commissioned a second season of its Jennette McCurdy-led drama "Between" (@jennettemccurdy); Cameron Crowe's Showtime pilot "Roadies" will recast the female lead, Shelli, played by Christina Hendricks (Deadline.com); Mark Ivanir will recur on "Homeland" as "a Russian intelligence agent, serving as Saul's (Mandy Patinkin) counterpart in the SVR," with Micah Hauptman likewise on board as CIA tech Mills, "who works with Miranda Otto's character out of the Berlin Station" (THR.com); and Universal Cable Productions is developing small screen takes on the comic books "El Pantera," from Warren Ellis and Gale Anne Hurd, and "Kill Shakespeare," from Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery (THR.com).
