BBC AMERICA ties for Most Nominations for a Basic Cable Network

New York - December 12, 2013 - Announced today, BBC AMERICA earned three Golden Globe(R) nominations for Orphan Black, Luther and Burton and Taylor. BBC AMERICA tied with AMC for the most nominations for a basic cable network.

"Our multiple nominations are a testament to the strength of BBC AMERICA's original series and co-productions which attract incredible talent from around the world. These captivating performances across categories demonstrate our commitment to compelling drama and great storytelling. We are grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for their recognition. Congratulations to the nominees and our production partners," commented Perry Simon, GM, BBC AMERICA.

Helena Bonham Carter received a nod for her portrayal of legendary actress, Elizabeth Taylor, in the BBC AMERICA co-production, Burton and Taylor. This marks Helena's seventh Golden Globe(R) nomination. She has also earned a SAG (R) Award nomination for her performance in Burton & Taylor.

Golden Globe(R) winner Idris Elba received recognition in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie Made for Television for reprising his role of troubled cop, John Luther in the BBC AMERICA co-production Luther. He has previously been nominated twice and won once for this role.

Tatiana Maslany, breakout star of the BBC AMERICA original series, Orphan Black, earned a nomination in the category of Best Actress in a Television Series, Drama for her multi-character performance in which she plays seven different clones. This is Tatiana's first Golden Globe(R) nomination. Earlier this year she earned a Critics' Choice Award, a Television Critics Association Award and a Young Hollywood Award for the same performance.

Luther and Burton and Taylor premiered in BBC AMERICA's Dramaville programming block, the home of groundbreaking British drama.

About Orphan Black

Sarah hopes that cleaning out a dead woman's bank account will solve all her problems. Instead, they multiply at an unnerving rate. Smart, sexy and pulsating with suspense - BBC AMERICA's original series, Orphan Black, features rising star Tatiana Maslany (Parks and Recreation, Picture Day). She portrays Sarah, an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman, Beth, who looks just like her. Sarah takes her identity, her boyfriend and her money. But instead of solving her problems, the street-smart chameleon is thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery. She makes the dizzying discovery that she and the dead woman are clones... but are they the only ones? Sarah quickly finds herself caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy, racing to find answers. Free episodes of Orphan Black are available now on Video on Demand and can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Xbox Live, VUDU, Sony PSN and Samsung Hub. Orphan Black: Season One is available on Blu-ray and DVD.

About Luther

Starring Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Pacific Rim) as John Luther in the title role which won him a Golden Globe(R) Best Actor award, the miniseries' third installment finds the near-genius detective struggling to cope with his own demons. He's back under intense pressure with two conflicting crimes to investigate and a ruthless ex-cop determined to bring him down. But love also crosses the detective's path in this new chapter when he meets Mary Day (Sienna Guillory - Resident Evil, Love Actually). While Luther is offered a chance at happiness, he must also face some of the darkest crimes of his career. Catch up on Luther 3 on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Xbox Live, VUDU, Sony PSN and Samsung Hub. Luther 3 is available on Blu-Ray and DVD.

About Burton and Taylor

BAFTA award-winning actors Dominic West (The Hour, The Wire) and Helena Bonham Carter (Les Misérables, The King's Speech) star as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor - Hollywood's most volatile on-again-off-again lovers who famously played out every high and low of their love affairs, multiple marriages and divorces right in the public eye. Recognized as one of the most fascinating, glamorous and tempestuous relationships of the 20th century, Burton and Taylor made their last stage appearance together in the critically reviled 1983 revival of Noel Coward's stage play, Private Lives. This is the story of their ill-fated reunion, on and off stage. Burton and Taylor will be available on DVD on February 4, 2014.
