By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

ANTHEM (FOX, New!) - Writer R. Lee Fleming, Jr. ("Friends") and actor/producer Topher Grace have scored a script commitment from the network for a new comedy about "four guys from suburban Indiana who get a second chance at their dream when they reunite the cover band they had as teenagers but find themselves juggling small town fame with their domestic responsibilities." Fleming will pen the half-hour and executive produce alongside Grace and Gordon Kaywin via their Sargent Hall banner for 20th Century Fox Television.

DEAR GIRLS ABOVE ME (CBS, New!) - Charlie McDowell's web site/Twitter feed, in which he writes to the party girls who live in the apartment above him in reaction to conversations he overhears, is being developed as a comedy series by the Eye. The project is set up at CBS Television Studios and Katalyst Films, the same companies behind the similarly gestated "Shh... Don't Tell Steve" at the network. As for specifics, the half-hour will revolve around "a single man who gains insight into the female mind by eavesdropping on his upstairs neighbors. McDowell and Justin Lader are co-writing the script while Tim Doyle is in negotiations to supervise and executive produce alongside The Schiff Co.'s David Schiff and Katalyst's Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg.

THE GATES (ABC) - Co-star Frank Grillo has indicated on his Twitter page the drama won't be returning for a second season. The series, whose 13-episode run this past summer averaged a modest 2.93 million viewers and a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49, was widely pegged as unlikely to be renewed.

LOVE THAT GIRL (TV One) - The cable channel has ordered 26 additional episodes of the series, which aired a four-episode test run back in January. Tatyana Ali stars in the project, about "a recent young divorcee returning to Southern California in search of new independence, a new career and a brand new chapter in her life." Bentley Kyle Evans is behind the Bent Outta Shape Productions/Hazrah Entertainment-based series, production of which is already underway for a first-quarter 2011 debut. Martin Lawrence also serves as an executive producer and will be featured in a recurring role.

HOW THE OTHER HALF HAMPTONS (FOX, New!) - Brian Buckner ("True Blood") has booked a new comedy at the network based on New York Post columnist Jasmin Rosemberg's novel of the same name. Said effort revolves around "friends Jamie, Rachel and Allison who don't have the old-school Hamptons money but still want to enjoy the trappings of the Hamptons lifestyle and find the men of their dreams, so they pile into a shared house together." 20th Century Fox Television and Rat Television are behind the project, with Buckner executive producing alongside the latter's Brett Ratner.
