By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

BREAKOUT KINGS (A&E) - Serinda Swan ("Smallville") has joined the cast of the FOX-turned-A&E drama, about a team of former cons working with U.S. Marshals. She'll play Erica Reed, "an expert at finding people who don't want to be found -- then killing them." Swan's addition fills the void left by Nicole Steinwedell, who co-starred in the FOX pilot but won't continue on the series.

CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (CBS) - Creator Anthony E. Zuiker has resumed day-to-day involvement on the franchise, following a five-year absence. There he'll work alongside showrunner Carol Mendelsohn, who's been at the helm of the series since 2002.

ENLIGHTENED (HBO) - Jonathan Demme ("The Silence of the Lambs") has signed on to helm two episodes of the upcoming comedy, about "a self-destructive woman (Laura Dern) who has a spiritual awakening and decides to live an enlightened life, which creates havoc at home and work." Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd, Timm Sharp and Amy Hill co-star in the half-hour, which comes from creator Mike White. Separately, Demme is developing "The Long Fall" at the pay channel, based on Walter Mosley's detective novels, alongside Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone. Demme is co-writing the script with Mosley and is also attached to direct.

OFF THE MAP (ABC) - "Friday Night Lights" alum Zach Gilford has joined the cast of the midseason drama, about a tiny town in the South American jungle which has one understaffed, under-stocked medical clinic. He'll play a plastic surgeon, an "all-American frat boy," who comes to work at the clinic. Enrique Murciano played a similar role in the original pilot, whose character is being written out.
