Development Update: Thursday, April 15
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

CALIFORNICATION (Showtime) - Carla Gugino and Addison Timlin are set to recur on the show's upcoming fourth season. The former will play "a new love interest to troubled novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny), a likeable corporate attorney" he meets after "being dragged away in handcuffs in the last scene of the Season 3 finale" with Timlin as "an actress starring in the film within the show." Gugino's arc is believed to be 10 episodes with the latter turning up in eight.

GET UP AND DANCE (CMT, New!) - Phil Gurin ("The Singing Bee") has booked a reality competition series at the cable channel in which amateur dancers - as individuals, couples or groups - perform their rendition of famous dance scenes before a live studio audience. No other format details were given about the project, other than it will also feature video clips of people from across the country paying their own tributes. Host and prizes presumably will be revealed at a later date.

HITHCED (CBS) - Sara Fletcher ("Secret Girlfriend") has reportedly joined the cast of the comedy pilot, about a twentysomething newlywed couple navigating their new life together. She'll, in a last-minute recasting, take over as the female lead, Rachel Reynolds. Fletcher replaces Kristin Kreuk, who was cast back in February alongside male lead Jack Carpenter. Eugene Levy, Kurtwood Smith, Riki Lindhome, Sharon Lawrence and Thomas Middleditch round out the cast of the Warner Bros. Television-based half-hour, which comes from co-creators Josh Schwartz and Matt Miller. Rob Greenberg is directing.

THE KILLING (AMC) - Michelle Forbes, Brent Sexton, Eric Ladin, Jamie Anne Allman and Joel Kinnaman have all joined the cast of the drama pilot, which "ties together three distinct stories by a single murder and as the detectives assigned to the case disagree about the best course of action, they chase down a variety of leads and suspects." Forbes and Sexton will play the victim's parents, Mitch ("rough-around-theedges-pretty, ex-biker bunny turned housewife and mother") and Stanley ("bullish, ex-biker, former boozer/brawler turned small business owner and family man") Larsen. Ladin then is set as Jamie Dempsey, Darren Richmond's (Billy Campbell) brilliant campaign manager, a "policy wonk, a younger, nerdier, non-bald version of James Carville." Then there's Allman as Terry Larsen ("tight clothing, thick blue eye shadow, touch of tramp"), Mitch's younger, prettier sister; and Joel Kinnaman as Stephen Holder, an "ex-narc, dark circles under his eyes, something jumpy around his mouth." In addition, Patty Jenkins ("Monster") has signed on to direct the Fox Television Studios-based hour from a script by Veena Sud.
