SYFY NAMES ANDREW PLOTKIN AS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING, SYFY

New York, NY -- July 30, 2009 -- Syfy has named veteran television executive Andrew Plotkin, who developed hit series such as Without a Trace, Nip/Tuck, Cold Case and Smallville, to the position of Senior Vice President, Original Programming, Syfy, based in Los Angeles reporting to Mark Stern, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Syfy/Co-Head, Original Content, Universal Cable Productions.

In making the announcement, Stern said: "We're very excited to have Andrew join the team. His entrepreneurial background, outstanding track record in developing unique, quality programming, and rock solid reputation with the creative community will be enormous assets as we continue to expand Syfy's original programming."

In his new role, Plotkin will work with the creative community across multiple platforms to find original voices and unique series concepts that fit the Syfy brand.

Most recently, Plotkin served as an executive producer to CCTV, China's national broadcaster, developing new production models designed to blend Western production values with Chinese content and sensibilities.

From 2004-2008, he and partner Steve Pearlman ran Class IV Productions, an independent production company based at Warner Bros. Television. During this time, Plotkin executive produced numerous pilots/series including the critically acclaimed Reunion for Fox and the comedic one-hour Related for The WB.

Before that, Plotkin served as Vice President, Drama Development, Warner Bros Television, from 2000-2004, where he played a key role in Warner Bros. Television becoming the number one supplier of programming to all major broadcast and cable networks for five consecutive years.

Plotkin began his television career in 1994 as an intern at Rysher Entertainment, an independently financed studio. He was eventually promoted to Vice President, Creative Affairs, where he oversaw creative development and current programming including the critically acclaimed HBO series OZ.

Plotkin attended the University of California at Davis, earning a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing in1992. He also attended the International House in Takasaki City, Japan, from 1992-1994. A native of Los Angeles, he and his wife Laurie have two children, Zack and Carly.
