Original Miniseries 'Legend of Earthsea' Earns Sci Fi Channel Top Spot in Cable

NEW YORK -- December 15, 2004 -- The premiere of SCI FI Channel's Original Miniseries Legend of Earthsea averaged a 3.2 HH rating/3.677,000 P2+ over two consecutive nights! SCI FI Channel was the top network in cable prime (Monday-Tuesday 8P-11P average) for HH ratings, P2+, P18-49s and P25-54s for entire run of the miniseries.** Legend Of Earthsea Part 1, 3.0 HH rating/3,437,000 P2+, was the highest-rated entertainment program on cable Monday night and ranked #3 overall for P18-49 and P25-54.

Bringing in even more viewers for the finale, Tuesday night's airing of Legend of Earthsea was the #1 program on cable in both ratings and delivery for HH, P2+, P18-49 and P25-54. Part 2 delivered a 3.4 HH rating/3,916,000 P2+, marking a +13% increase in HH ratings and a +14% increase in viewers from Monday's Part 1.

Expanding on the Channel's usual miniseries fare with a foray into fantasy, Legend of Earthsea carries on the tradition of SCI FI's blockbuster December miniseries events. As with Battlestar Galactica, Steven Spielberg Presents TAKEN and Frank Herbert's Dune, Legend of Earthsea wowed audiences and brought in record ratings for the Channel.

The respective premieres of Legend of Earthsea Nights 1 and 2 9-11pm ET/PT) delivered an aggregate audience of 7,353,000 P2+. The aggregate for all seven telecasts of Legend of Earthsea (Part 1 includes Monday, December 13 at 9P, 11P, 1A and Tuesday, December 14 at 7P and Part 2 includes Tuesday, December 14 at 9P, 11P and 1A) topped out at 13,218,000 P2+.

A four-hour miniseries event based on two best-selling novels from Ursula K. Le Guin, Legend of Earthsea tells the story of a reckless young wizard and his journey to save the mystical land of Earthsea from being destroyed by an evil tyrant. The two-part miniseries stars Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, X-Men 2), Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet), Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon). Legend of Earthsea is directed by Robert Lieberman (The Casino) and produced by Hallmark Entertainment and Bender-Brown Productions.

The entire Legend of Earthsea miniseries will be rebroadcast on Sunday, December 19 from 7pm - 11pm ET/PT.
