A New "Hallmark Hall of Fame" Presentation To Be Broadcast

CBS, the only Network with a regularly scheduled movie night, announced airdates for eight new original movies, including a new "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation and a new four-hour event mini-series, to be broadcast as the "CBS Sunday Movie" from October to December.

OVERLOAD (working title), a new four-hour event mini-series scheduled for Nov. 14 and Nov. (date TBA), is an original drama in which a massive hurricane from the South, tornadoes from West and an Arctic front from the North are on track to converge over Chicago, creating the potential for the worst storm and power outages in the nations history. Nancy McKeon, Thomas Gibson, Brian Dennehy, Dianne Wiest and Randy Quaid star in the mini-series.

From "Hallmark Hall of Fame" is the new presentation BACK WHEN WE WERE GROWNUPS. Last season, two "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentations, "Fallen Angel" and "Plainsong," were the #2 and #6 top single-part television movies.

For the upcoming season, Academy Award, Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award and Tony Award winners dominate the casts of CBSs original movies.

The Academy Award winners are Faye Dunaway, Jack Palance and Dianne Wiest. The Emmy Award winners are Kirstie Alley, Christina Applegate, Tammy Blanchard, Peter Falk and Sela Ward. Anne Heche is currently nominated for an Emmy Award. The Golden Globe Award winners are Brian Dennehy and Peter Fonda, and the Tony Award winners are Blythe Danner, Brian Dennehy, Anne Heche and Joe Mantegna.

Three of this periods movies are based on the works of best-selling authors: WHILE I WAS GONE, by Sue Miller, BACK WHEN WE WERE GROWNUPS by Anne Tyler and SAY WHEN by Elizabeth Berg. WHILE I WAS GONE was also an Oprah Book Club Selection. Family dramas, a stranger-than-fiction true story, a romantic comedy, a supernatural thriller and two new holiday movies round out the wide variety of themes for the upcoming films.

The following are airdates for original CBS movies and mini-series from October through December:

SUBURBAN MADNESS, Sunday Oct. 3 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), stars two-time Emmy Award winner Sela Ward ("Once and Again," "Sisters") and Elizabeth Pea in the stranger-than-fiction true story of Clara Harris, the woman who killed her philandering husband by running over him three times with her Mercedes automobile. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, executive producers of the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning feature film "Chicago," are the executive producers for Storyline Entertainment, in association with Sony Pictures Television.

WHILE I WAS GONE, Sunday, Oct. 10 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), based on the Oprah Book Club Selection and New York Times best-seller by Sue Miller, stars Emmy Award winner Kirstie Alley ("Davids Mother," "Cheers"), Bill Smitrovich ("Fail Safe") and Peter Horton ("From The Earth to the Moon") in a drama about a woman whose existence is shaken to the core when a friend from her past comes back into her life. Frank von Zerneck and Robert M. Sertner ("Scott Turows Reversible Errors") are the executive producers for von Zerneck/Sertner Films.

PERFECT STRANGERS, Sunday, Oct. 17 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), stars Rob Lowe ("dr. vegas"), Anna Friel ("Timeline") and Khandi Alexander ("CSI: Miami") in a romantic comedy about a high-powered New York advertising executive and a junior ad rep in London who switch lives for a month as part of a company exchange program and learn that they have more in common than they imagined. Simon Wright ("Double Bill") and Analisa Barreto ("Last of the Blonde Bombshells") are the executive producers for Working Title ("Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Bridget Jones's Diary").

THE DEAD WILL TELL, Sunday, Oct. 24 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), inspired by the readings of famed medium James Van Praagh ("Living With The Dead"), stars current Emmy Award nominee Anne Heche ("Gracies Choice"), Academy Award nominee Kathleen Quinlan ("Apollo 13"), Jonathan LaPaglia ("The District") and Academy Award nominee Chris Sarandon ("Dog Day Afternoon") in a supernatural thriller that revolves around a young woman who, when she wears her antique engagement ring, begins to see fleeting images of a beautiful woman who then disappears into thin air. Barbara Lieberman ("Gleason") and James Van Praagh ("Beyond with James Van Praagh") are the executive producers for Barbara Lieberman Productions in association with Robert Greenwald Productions.

OVERLOAD (working title), Sunday, Nov. 14 and Part 2 TBA (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT, both nights), a new four-hour event mini-series, stars Nancy McKeon ("The Division"), Thomas Gibson ("Raising Waylon"), Tony Award and Golden Globe Award winner Brian Dennehy ("Death of a Salesman"), Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest ("Bullets Over Broadway") and Randy Quaid ("Independence Day") in a natural disaster drama in which a hurricane from the South, tornadoes from the West and an Arctic front from the North are on track to converge over Chicago, creating the potential for the worst storm in the nations history that threatens to shut down the citys outdated power grid and leave millions of people without electricity and the ability to hear news of the impending danger. Frank von Zerneck and Robert M. Sertner ("Scott Turows Reversible Errors") are the executive producers for von Zerneck/Sertner Films.

BACK WHEN WE WERE GROWN UPS, Sunday, Nov. 21 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), a new "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Anne Tyler, stars Tony Award winner Blythe Danner ("Sylvia"), Academy Award winner Faye Dunaway ("Network"), Golden Globe Award winner Peter Fonda ("The Passion of Ayn Rand," "Ulees Gold"), Academy Award winner Jack Palance ("City Slickers") and Peter Riegert ("Bleacher Bums") in a quirky story about a widow who is contemplating what her life would have been like if she had married someone else and calls her ex-boyfriend to see if she can rekindle the old flame and spice up her life. Richard Welsh ("A Painted House") and Brent Shields ("Brush With Fate") are the executive producers for Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions.

A CHRISTMAS WITHOUT ORNAMENTS (working title), Sunday, Nov. 28 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), stars Emmy Award winner Peter Falk ("Columbo"), who reprises the role of the angel Max from the Network television movies "A Town Without Christmas" and "Finding John Christmas," Katey Sagal ("Married with Children") and Emmy Award winner Tammy Blanchard ("Life with Judy Garland: Me & My Shadows") in a heartwarming story that finds Maxs job in jeopardy when his heavenly supervisor comes to earth to discipline him for contacting the wrong family in need of his help at Christmastime. Daniel H. Blatt ("A Town Without Christmas," "Finding John Christmas") is the executive producer for Daniel H. Blatt Productions.

SAY WHEN (working title), Sunday, Dec. 5 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), stars Tony Award winner Joe Mantegna ("Glengarry Glen Ross," "Joan of Arcadia"), Emmy Award winner Jean Smart ("Frasier," "Center of the Universe") and Golden Globe Award winner Charles Durning ("The Kennedys of Massachusetts") in a lighthearted holiday story, based on the best-seller by Elizabeth Berg, about a man whose orderly life begins to fall apart when he learns, shortly before Christmas, that his wife is having an affair and wants a divorce. Larry Sanitsky ("Open House") is the executive producer for The Sanitsky Company and Mindshare Entertainment.

As previously announced, THE REVENGE OF THE MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN, starring Christine Lahti, Brian Kerwin and Bryan Brown to be broadcast on Sunday, Sept. 26, is the premiere movie of the season.

The "CBS Sunday Movie" heads into the 2004-2005 season with tremendous momentum, having increased +10 in households, +14% in adults 18-49 and +13% in viewers compared to the prior season.
